Partially Blind OAP Assaulted In Robbery Bid

Police are hunting a would-be thief who tried to steal a blind OAP's handbag in Glasgow in broad daylight.

The 78 year old woman was walking on Broomhill Drive close to the junction with Dumbarton Road on Saturday at around 1520 when she was attacked.

A man approached her from behind and demanded her handbag. When the lady refused to hand it over the suspect forcibly grabbed the handbag resulting in her being pushed to the pavement.

The suspect then ran off empty-handed turning left onto Dumbarton Road.

Although the victim was uninjured she is badly shaken as a result of the incident.

The suspect is described as white man with a local accent, 5ft 6“ in height and of slim build who was wearing a grey hooded top and grey bottoms.

Detective Constable Robert Allen of Partick Police Office said today: “This was a brazen assault on an elderly woman who carries a white stick.

"The suspect deliberately attempted to prey on a vulnerable person in our community.

"Although she managed to hold on to her property she is very shaken and lucky not to be more seriously injured after falling over as a result of the incident.

"We are looking for any help as to the identity of the man or anyone who saw him running on Dumbarton Road on a busy Saturday Afternoon.”
