Motorists hit with M8 delays as bomb squad called to reports of 'suspicious package'

Motorists have been hit with delays on the M8 as officers look into a report of a suspicious package.

They were called to Milnbank Street at around 3.30pm and the bomb disposal team has since been called out.

The premises has been evacuated and a cordon has been put in place to keep people safe.

A section of the motorway had been closed between junctions 12 and 15 as investigations took place but has since re-opened.

Police are still advising drivers to take an alternative route to avoid congestion.

Chief Inspector Scott Simpson said: "We were called around 3.30pm on Thursday, 27 January, 2022, to a report of a suspicious package found within a premises on Milnbank Street in Glasgow.

"Officers are in attendance and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) have been contacted. The premises has been evacuated, a cordon has been put in place"
