Parents Given Warnings In School Run Crackdown
3 school buses found with mechanical faults in Lanarkshire
Police ordered three buses to be taken off the road because their were unsafe during a school run crackdown across Lanarkshire.
55 mums and dads were given warnings about where they'd parked during the Vulnerable Road Users Campaign last week which was highlighting road safety hazards to school children.
Officers targeted a range of issues including inconsiderate parking by parents, seatbelt checks, speeding drivers including specific checks on school buses.
Inspector Darren Faulds from Lanarkshire’s Road Policing Unit said: "This initiative was part of our ongoing commitment to keeping people safe and I hope that we have given both the children and parents valuable lessons on road safety and positively influenced driver’s behaviour.
“As you will see we issued 55 warnings for inconsiderate parking which was to parents dropping their kids off at school. Parents have to remember that they have a big role to play in keeping not just their own children but all children safe, taking a moment to think ‘is it safe to stop here’ as this may save someone’s life.
“We will continue to work with our partners in North & South Lanarkshire as well as other agencies such as DVSA to ensure the roads around schools are safe for children.”
The results for the week were:
55 warnings for inconsiderate parking 2 conditional offers issued for causing an unnecessary obstruction 13 warnings for inappropriate speed in vicinity of schools 1 motorist warning for shouting at a School Crossing Patrol 3 buses used to convey children to school were prohibited for mechanical defects
