A Pro-Palestine campaign group has targeted a military equipment factory in Edinburgh, in an early morning protest.

Members of Palestine Action Scotland stormed the Leonardo UK facility on Crewe Road North.

Pictures show red painted splattered across the building, and the group claim they were "occupying the roof, tearing the site to pieces & halting its production of Israeli F-35 combat aircraft laser targeting systems."

A Police helicopter was called to the scene, as well as hoards of officers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to a report of a protest at a building on Crewe Road North in Edinburgh around 7.50am on Thursday, 19 January.

“Officers are in attendance and are engaging with those present.”

The site is a world leader in producing military lasers with targeting systems which are rigged to jets, such as the F-35 fighters which have been used by Israel.

The same group staged a similar protest at the Thales factory in Glasgow last Summer.

A spokesperson from Palestine Action Scotland stated: "We've taken on Thales, and now we've taken on Leonardo.

"Any company supplying Israel should be well aware by now that Scotland is not a safe place for them to conduct their deadly trade.

"If you assist the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, know that we'll come and shut you down."
