A man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a man after an altercation on a packed bus.

Kenneth Kerr is said to have attacked John Gallagher in Paisley, near Glasgow, on Saturday morning.

Police launched an investigation amid reports that Gallagher, 39, had been stabbed on a McGill's bus in the Renfrewshire town at 11.15am on Saturday, May 20.

During the probe Kerr, also 39, was arrested and held in police custody.

He appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday 22nd May, represented by Solicitor Advocate Bob Mitchell, to face a single charge over the alleged incident.

Prosecutors claim he carried out a life-threatening assault on Gallagher and did "repeatedly strike him on the body with a knife or similar implement" at 19 Neilston Road, Paisley.

And the petition against Kerr alleges the attack left Gallagher badly hurt, scarred for life and placed his life at risk.

Kerr made no plea to during the behind-closed-doors hearing, and was remanded in custody by Sheriff Craig Harris.

Sheriff Harris continued the case against Kerr from Paisley for prosecutors to investigate further.

No future court dates have been set but Kerr is expected to make a second court appearance in connection with the case next week.
