Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-on Postponed as Mark of Respect to Paris

Published 14th Nov 2015

The Christmas Lights Switch-on in Paisley town centre has been postponed, as a sign of respect following the multiple terror attacks in Paris.

The event was meant to take place at 12pm on Paisley High Street, which coincided with the public launch of the town's bid for UK City of Culture 2021.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan said: "Our entire community is joined in solidarity with the people of Paris today.

"These shocking events have reverberated across the world and we send our thoughts and prayers to all those affected.

"As a mark of respect to Paris, we have decided to postpone our programme of events today.

"I know we will have the full support of our community in taking this decision - we could not have proceeded with our celebrations in the aftermath of these deeply-distressing incidents."

Over the coming days, event organisers will be looking at the logistics of rescheduling and will update the public as soon as possible.
