A motorbike crash has left one man dead and another fighting for his life.

Both men were travelling on the Suzuki motorcycle when it struck a stone dyke, causing the pair to be thrown off the vehicle.

A 23-year-old man died at the scene of the crash, in Boig Road, near to Nith Bridge in New Cumnock, Ayrshire.

The second man, whose identity is not yet known, was taken to Ayr Hospital where staff described his condition as being critical.

Police Scotland is investigating the incident, which took place at 6.15am on Monday August 29, with Constable Yvonne Cambridge of the Divisional Road Policing Unit in Irvine stating: "We are currently trying to establish the identity of the injured man and also the circumstances of the crash.

"It is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who may have seen the two men travelling on the motorcycle prior to it crashing."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101.

A report on the incident will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
