One dead and three injured after M74 crash

A woman has died and three others injured after a crash between a bus and a lorry on the M74 near junction 6.

A woman has died and three others injured after a crash between a bus and a lorry on the M74 near junction 6.

The 74 year-old was rushed to Wishaw General but passed away a short time later - two others, aged 78 and 77 years, were treated for minor injuries.

The 63 year old driver of the bus was treated by ambulance staff at the scene - the HGV driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours after the incident around 4pm and police are appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Stewart Dyer, Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said:

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash, including those with any dashcam footage, and also the drivers of two cars, one blue and one red (NFD), who were in the area round the time of the crash. Their information could prove vital to the investigation.

“Witnesses or anyone with information can contact Motherwell Road Policing Unit via 101, quoting reference number 2405 of the 24 October 2018.”
