A young autograph hunter from Kilmarnock got more than she bargained for when Olympic hero Adam Peaty gave away his gold medal at the British Swimming Championships in Glasgow.
7 year old Alyvia Wears received the astonishing gift after Peaty he stormed victory in the 50m breaststroke final at Tollcross on Wednesday.
“We were stunned!” says her dad, Kris.
“Alyvia was leaning over the barrier as he was walking past and we shouted ‘Hey, Adam!’
“He stopped, looked up, and signed her autograph book. Then he said: ‘do you want this?’ and took off his medal and passed it up to her. We couldn’t believe it!”
Alyvia, who swims with the North Ayrshire team, proudly wore it to training session at the Portal in Irvine the following night.
Alyvia and her family were at Tollcross not only to watch the UK’s fastest swimmers but also to support big sister, Charlize, and team mate Caelin Chan, who were volunteering as kit carriers and medal ceremony helpers
