Campaigners are calling on Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and Historic Environments Scotland (HES) to prevent the potential demolition of the Old Vogue Cinema in Possilpark.

Andrew Moore, 40, has launched a petition amassing almost 600 signatures asking decision-makers to step in, after the art-deco building was bought by Allied Vehicles.

The former cinema and bingo hall, which was built in 1933 and designed by James McKissack, was temporarily saved from demolition last year when HES granted it a C-listed status.

However, Allied Vehicles are appealing to continue with plans to knock it down.

Andrew told Clyde 1: "We're calling on Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government, and Historic Environment Scotland to intervene and prevent the demolition of the Old Vogue Cinema in Possilpark.

"Although this historic cinema was temporarily saved from demolition in 2024 following public outcry, it remains under threat as the owner has appealed the decision.

"The Old Vogue is more than just a building—it is a beautiful piece of Glasgow’s cultural and architectural heritage that deserves to be preserved for future generations.

"It’s a place filled with memories. As a child, I spent countless days visiting my grandparents in Possilpark, and the cinema was always there, standing as a landmark in my childhood.

"Its beauty and its history have stayed with me long after my grandparents passed away.

"Losing the Old Vogue would be like losing a part of my own family history and a connection to my roots."

The petition is available here.

A spokesperson for HES said: "HES listed the former Vogue Cinema building in Possilpark at Category C in June 2024, following the issue of a Building Preservation Notice by Glasgow City Council.

"The listing has now been appealed to Scottish Ministers, and we are contributing information as part of that process."

The Scottish Government said: "The Scottish Government cannot comment on specific planning cases that may come before Ministers in due course."

Allied Vehicles was contacted for comment.
