Blackpool pub forced to close this weekend due to 'sheer amount' travelling to watch Old Firm game
A Rangers supporters bar in Blackpool has taken the decision to close this weekend, due to the "sheer amount" of football fans set to travel to watch the Old Firm game on Saturday.
The management team at the Gallant Pioneer took to social media to express it wasn't an easy decision to make, but say they feel it was the right decision.
In the post, they claimed they have had requests from over 1500 people for entrance to the pub over the last week.
It comes after the First Minister warned football fans yesterday not to travel to Blackpool to watch the game on Saturday.
They added: "With the new restrictions that people must be from the same household, we feel it is impossible for us to police this weekend with so many strangers in groups coming to Blackpool which then puts our staff and customers safety at risk which is paramount importance to us.
"Also the pubs future at risk with the position of being closed down and fined £10,000 when the council, police and Covid Enforcement Officers come in and anyone has given false information when signing in."
