Police are still trying to track down three armed robbers who raided an industrial unit in Cumbernauld.
Police are still trying to track down three armed robbers who raided an industrial unit in Cumbernauld.
It's been a week since a shop worker was held up at gunpoint at the Selecta store in Westfield Industrial Estate.
The men then stole a five figure sum of money from the business and made off in a red Ford Focus estate car.
The member of staff was not physically injured but has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.
The first suspect is described as, in his late 40s, around 5 ft. 9 inches in height with a slim build and unkempt appearance. The second suspect is in his 40s, around 5 ft. 9 inches in height with a slim build and wearing a black balaclava. The third suspect is in his 20s, skinny build and around 5 ft. 6 inches in height.
Detective Inspector David Reilly, Coatbridge CID, said: “This was no doubt a targeted robbery. The men who did this knew what they were looking for and what they could get. One man threatened the employee with a firearm whilst the others gathered the money.
“The majority of the five figure sum stolen was in £2 and £1 coins - an enormous amount of coins that would have been difficult to move quickly.
“The men made off in a red Ford Focus Estate around 1720 hours but the car was not found until 8.10pm in Drumcavel Rd at Glenboig Rd, Glenboig. We need to know where it was in between times. Was it for example parked up and then retrieved later?
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area, who saw the car and its occupants hanging about or to anyone who saw the car in the general area or parked somewhere between the industrial estate and where it would found in Glenboig to contact police.”
Officers will be at Westfield Industrial Estate and the surrounding roads between 4pm and 6pm tonight speaking to people and motorists in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Cumbernauld Police Office via 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
