The specialist unit attended Harbour Terraces in Glasgow after being alerted at about 8pm on Thursday.
Three men were spoken to by police and nobody was injured.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of men firing a gun on a balcony at Harbour Terraces, Glasgow, around 8pm on Thursday, 9 July.
"Officers attended, including specialist firearms officers, and inquiries were carried out to establish the circumstances.
"Three men - aged 21, 22 and 22 - were spoken to. Paintball guns were seized and will be forensically examined.
"Nobody was injured and inquiries are ongoing.''
