OAP Robbed In Greenock After Panto Trip
Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was robbed in Greenock
The 73 year old who had been in Glasgow to see a pantomime was walking along Roxburgh Street in Greenock on Wednesday night at around 19:15 hours.
She was pushed to the ground from behind and robbed of her handbag and contents.
Her attacker then made off in the direction of Bank Street.
The woman was not seriously injured during this incident but was left bruised and in a state of shock. Following police enquiry the bag and its contents were located at the rear of the Rangers Supporters Club on Bank Street where it was established that a two-figure sum of money had been stolen. The suspect is described as approximately 5 foot 10” in height, medium build, wearing dark clothing with his hood up. Officers are in the process of analysing CCTV from the surrounding area.
They are also conducting door-to-door enquiries. Detective Inspector David Wagstaff of Greenock CID said today: “This was a despicable attack on a vulnerable elderly woman who was making her way home from a Pantomime show in Glasgow City Centre. She had recently left the company of a friend when the attack took place. The woman was left with cuts and bruises and in a state of shock following the incident.” “Incidents of this nature are rare in Inverclyde. Additional police officers are in the area conducting enquiries. We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack on Roxburgh Street or has seen anyone matching the description of the suspect in the surrounding area. You may not think the information you have is important, but as part of our broader investigation your information could be really useful in tracing the person responsible for this disgusting attack on an elderly resident of Inverclyde.” Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Greenock Police Office on the non-emergency police number, 101.
