There is new hope for campaigners fighting to stop the demolition of the historic O2 ABC on Sauchiehall Street.

Clyde News can exclusively reveal the planning application to tear it down has been ruled invalid.

The City Council's sent it back to developers because it is missing information.

Lesley Mitchell started petition to save it which has been signed by more than 10,000 people.

She said: "I am surprised but I am heartened because it gives us more time to build up a case to save it and get more signatures on our petition.

"I think it is already clear to the council and to the building owners that there is a lot of affection for the ABC, just as much if not more than the Art School.

"Even if the petition doesn't save it, it is drawing attention to the situation."

It is expected a new application will be submitted within weeks.
