Child in 'serious' condition in hospital after being hit by a car

It has emerged that a nine year old girl sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.

The child was struck by the vehicle on Main Street in Belshill shortly after 6.30pm on Saturday 13 May.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told us: “Around 6.35pm on Saturday, 13 May 2023, we received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car on Main Street, Bellshill.

“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a nine-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. Her condition is described as serious but stable.

“The road was closed while officers carried out crash investigation work and re-opened around 00.15am on Sunday, 14 May.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
