Nominations are now open for Glasgow’s Sport Awards 2023.

Winners will be announced in November at a ceremony hosted by the Lord Provost of Glasow at the Emirates Arena’s, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The gala will go ahead on Monday the 27th of November and showcase the highlights of the year, including the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023.

The people of Glasgow have been busy using sport to make a positive impact

This year’s awards will also celebrate the city’s achievements, including Glasgow being crowned the European Capital of Sport 2023.

Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren, said: “I look forward to hosting this year’s awards event to recognise all those who do so much to promote sport in our communities, and celebrate Glasgow’s year as European Capital of Sport.”

It’s the second time the city has won the prestigious award, making Glasgow the only city to win the coveted title twice.

Glasgow first won European Capital of Sport in 2003.

Bailie Annette Christie, Chair of Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council Convenor for Culture, Sport and International Relations, says it took hard work and dedication to win the award again.

She said: “We’ve got this title because of the investment the city has put into grassroot sports in the last twenty years.

“The European Capital of Sport title recognises Glasgow’s reputation as a world class sports destination, and we want to use this as a springboard to increase the participation in sport and all other physical activities.”

Communities are enjoying the benefits of sport and physical activity

At a local level, the Glasgow Sport Awards recognise the dedication and achievements of individuals and organisations across the city to promote sport and physical activity.

Christie added: “It’s important to recognise so many people and organisations who have been instrumental to changing other people’s life in Glasgow using the power of sport.

"It’s really vital that we showcase the impact these individuals and organisations are having on supporting the wellbeing of people and communities throughout Glasgow.”

There are nine award categories that span across all types of sport and activity, from grassroots projects to professional levels.
