Nine year old girl in hospital after being hit by car in Dumbarton

The child was walking through a temporary walkway underneath a railway bridge on Townhead Road when a grey Vauxhall Astra crashed into the scaffolding hitting her.

A nine year old girl's in hospital being treated for serious leg injuries after being hit by a car in Dumbarton on Sunday afternoon.

The child was walking through a temporary walkway underneath a railway bridge on Townhead Road around 2:05pm when a grey Vauxhall Astra crashed into the scaffolding hitting her.

Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where she is being treated for serious leg injuries.

Inspector Gillian Gardner, Dumbarton Road Policing said: "Our officers are carrying out a number of enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

"We are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward. Think back, do you remember seeing the car mentioned? You may have mobile phone or dash-cam footage that can help us.

"We have already spoken to a number of people, however if you stopped to assist and have not yet spoken to police we would ask you to get in touch.

"Anyone with information can contact Police via 101. Please quote incident number 2022 of Sunday January 20 when calling."
