Scottish X-Factor star, Nicholas McDonald, is exclusively telling Radio Clyde News that he is on the lookout for a new venue for his gig celebrating ten years since his appearance on the show.

It comes after Motherwell Concert Hall announced it is closing with "immediate effect" after an inspection found a form crumbling concrete, known as RAAC, in the roof.

The news was shared via Motherwell Concert Hall's Twitter page: "Motherwell Concert Hall & Theatre will be closed with immediate effect after an initial survey found RAAC in the roof.

"A full intrusive survey is required. While this is carried out, the venue will remain closed. Ticket holders will be contacted for performances affected."

'Gutting and heartbreaking'

The singer says he is gutted to have found out that his performance, scheduled for October, may not be able to go ahead.

He said: "It's obviously gutting and heartbreaking - myself and my wife have put a lot of time and effort into the event.

"It's probably the biggest event for me personally, because it's celebrating ten years from X Factor this year.

"It just means so much to me that I can bring people who've supported me over the last ten years together in one room and host a great night.

"It was about remembrance of what I've achieved over the last ten years and it just means so much.

"I had people coming from Florida, supporters coming from down south, people from Ireland.

"People are flying in to see this event and celebrate it with me, and obviously right now we don't know what's going to happen or what the next steps are.

"Obviously the safety of the staff of the staff and general public is the number one priority.

"I wouldn't put anyone who supports me in that position, and I think the venue has done the right thing by closing.

"I know this is a massive inconvenience to everyone and I hope everyone understands it's kind of outwith my control.

"As soon as I get an update, I will let everyone know."

'Safety firmly in mind'

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “An initial inspection of the Motherwell Theatre and Concert Hall has found that the majority of the roof is made with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) planks.

“The inspection also found some evidence of water ingress to the roof. These findings mean that a full intrusive survey must be carried out.

"Unfortunately it is not possible to operate the building as normal while this survey takes place and with the safety of the public and staff firmly in mind, we have decided that the theatre and concert hall will be closed with immediate effect until further notice.

“The team at the concert hall will be touch directly with ticket holders for performances affected.”
