Intensive care staff at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Glasgow and the Royal Alexandrea Hospital in Paisley are launching their bid for the Christmas Number 1.

They have come together with NHS doctors and nurses across the UK to form a Zoom choir to record their version of "Every Breath You Take" by Police.

Lyndsey Jarvie works as a critical care nurse at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and performed in the virtual choir.

She said: "Hearing the song for the first time when we were all singing it together was extremely emotional and I didn't think I could be moved that much by it.

"The song is just all of us singing together and nothing about it is edited."

Known as the ICU Liberty Singers, it is hoped they can raise funds to support NHS staff who have been impacted by the pandemic.

The track is made up of 223 individual vocal recordings sung by choir members in their own homes and then blended together.

The group will aim to challenge the likes of Robbie Williams, Jess Glynne and Liam Gallagher for a place at the top of the charts.

Lyndsey added: "The song for me is about letting people know that we are still in this situation and we are doing everything we possibly can for your relatives and loved ones all the time.

"We are still fighting this virus and we are still working exceptionally hard to try to get everyone that we can better.

"At Glasgow Royal our person-centered care is at the forefront of everything that we do.

"Christmas can be an especially difficult time for families who have a loved one in critical care.

"We are used to having relatives visiting patients all the time over the festive season.

"I hope the song reminds people that we all have a part to play by wearing masks, getting vaccinated when you have the opportunity and sticking to the rules."
