A partially completed home in a new housing estate in Renfrewshire has been torched.

Fire Services raced to the scene at The Fairways in Elderslie last night around 9pm to fight the blaze. Police say there has been significant damage.

They are keen to find a group of youths who were seen in the area prior to the fire attack.

Detective Sergeant James McAteer said: “The fire has caused significant damage to the house and it is being treated as wilful.

“We have spoken to people in the local area who have said that a group of youths were seen in the area shortly before the fire.

“I urge anyone who was in the Newton Avenue area shortly before 9pm on Saturday evening, who witnessed anything suspicious or has any information that may assist our investigation to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone with dashcam or personal footage from the area to review their recordings and get in touch if it holds anything relevant.”

Information can be passed to officers through 101 quoting reference number 3013 of 15 February. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
