One of Glasgow’s new subway fleet has been vandalised in a move branded “only a matter of time”.

Graffiti has been plastered upon the side of the train covering the windows and door.

The new trains were launched just before Christmas and part of a £288.7 million modernisation project for the 125-year-old subway system.

With a sleeker look and driverless system, the trains were a significant milestone for Glasgow transport and were launched in a ribbon cutting ceremony.

They feature a “walk-through” design and are wheelchair accessible and air conditioned.

Criticism has been expressed online for the selfish act.

On the original reddit post, one user commented; “this is why we can’t have nice things.”

However, some were less critical of the vandalism with another user stating, “You go anywhere in Europe and the trains look like this – it’s colourful and should be applauded.”

An SPT spokesperson said: “A train has been vandalised in the test track area, managed by ANSTA, SPT’s contractor. This is clearly unacceptable and arrangements are being made for it to be cleaned.”
