The drive-through coronavirus testing centre at Prestwick Airport is now fully open.

It is the sixth to open in Scotland, following Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Perth and Inverness.

The new centre, operated with facilities management firm Sodexo, opened on a pilot basis on Saturday and is now fully operational, offering both assisted and self-administered tests.

The UK Government said test results from the site will be received "within a few days''.

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: "This new UK Government-funded testing site at Prestwick Airport will help key workers in the area continue their vital work, helping to look after those who need it most.

"This new centre means that six drive-through centres are now operating in Scotland, as well as 13 mobile units run by the army.

"The UK Government is expanding our Covid-19 testing capacity right across the UK.''

A spokesman for the airport said: "We are delighted to be able to support the Department of Health and Social Care to provide a testing facility at the airport''.

Anyone eligible for a test can book an appointment on the NHS website or by calling 0300 303 2713.
