Victim of fatal hit-and-run in Glasgow named by police

27 year old Steven Campbell from Rutherglen was fatally hit by a van in the early hours on Saturday 2 June 2018.
A 33 year old man has been arrested, but cannot be named for legal reasons.
Police continue their enquiries into the murder.
Around 1:50 am, Steven Campbell, and a man and a woman were walking in Burnhill Street, Rutherglen when a white Ford transit van deliberately drove at them.
The 27 year old was hit and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died. The other man and the woman were uninjured but both are extremely distressed by what has happened.
The VW white transit van then sped off towards Prospecthill Road.
Officers are treating the incident as murder and are appealing for information regarding the white transit van which may have suffered damage to its front in the hit and run.
Detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are in the process of gathering CCTV footage from in an around the area for any additional information.
Burnhill Street and Prospecthill Road are currently closed as forensics officers search for any evidence and conduct further enquiry at the scene.
Detective Inspector Kevin Houliston, from the Major Investigations Team, said: “Our inquiry is at an early stage and we are trying to piece together the exact circumstances of what has happened and why. A young man has lost his life and a family has been left devastated. A number of lines of inquiry will be considered as we progress our enquiries. In particular, I am appealing for information on the VW transit van. If anyone saw it speed off, if anyone saw it prior to the incident or if anyone sees it parked up somewhere, please contact us. At this stage of our enquiries, any small detail could prove vital in our investigation and I appeal to people with any information or knowledge of the incident to contact us.”
