detectives appeal for information after blaze last night at block of flats in Millcroft Road
Detectives are appealing for information following a suspicious fire in Cumbernauld.
Police received a report of a blaze at around 1745 hours last night at a block of flats in Millcroft Road.
Emergency services attended and a number of people had to be evacuated from their homes.
Three people, a 20 year old woman and her two kids aged 2 and 3 years old were taken, by ambulance, to Monklands Hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. They have since been released.
Enquiries so far have indicated the fire was set deliberately when a number of items were placed at the common close door and set alight.
The building suffered extensive smoke damage in the fire.
Detectives have been conducting door-to-door enquiries and are in the process of gathering CCTV footage for review in the hope that it provides information which could assist the investigation.
Detective Constable Carla O’Neill said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the Millcroft Road area around the time of the incident to contact us. Did you notice anyone running away, did you see anyone hanging around outside the close.
"Was there anything that you saw which you thought seemed a little odd. If you have any information, please do pass it on to us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Cumbernauld Police Office via 101. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
