Motherwell DJ's name engraved on Glasgow Hydro wall of fame
Fraser Stuart sold out Scotland's largest entertainment venue in under 24 hours
A Motherwell DJ’s name has been engraved on the Glasgow OVO Hydro wall of fame, after selling out the venue in under 24 hours.
Fraser Stuart, better known as Frazi.er, is hosting the city's biggest ever indoor electronic music event tonight.
The 27-year-old has been waiting for his show to get the green light following months of delays due to covid restrictions.
After originally selling out the venue in October, Fraser was recognised in the Scottish Parliament.
Scottish Greens MSP for Central Scotland Gillian Mackay raised a motion at Holyrood to celebrate him "becoming one of the UK’s most sought-after artists in his genre.”
Speaking to Clyde News, Fraser says he’s still trying to wrap his head around all of the hype.
He said:
“It’s quite funny, seeing my name in parliament for techno music is so mad, but it shows you how big it must be for this genre of music.
“You wouldn’t think they would ever acknowledge something like that.”
Since then, Fraser’s face has been plastered on billboards across Glasgow as the anticipation for his show builds.
Despite all his success, Fraser says seeing himself on the huge screens still feels odd:
“It feels like a wind-up, I’m a boy from Motherwell so driving about Glasgow and seeing my name on big massive billboards just seems ridiculous, but it’s something I’m trying to get used to.
“It’s pretty mad but it’s just about staying humble and enjoying the moment really."
Speaking about the backstage wall of fame, Fraser says it’s an honour having his name engraved beside so many huge artists:
“The wall of fame in the Hydro is quality, when I got a tour round it I saw names like Drake, Beyonce, Robbie Williams and just people who are selling out shows all over the world.
“It is special to have my name next to all these people, even if it is for a completely different kind of event."
From his early twenties, Fraser has been playing shows across all of Europe but says Glasgow's Hydro has always been a dream.
He said:
“I’ve had the Hydro lined up for around four years, I didn’t know if it would be possible, but I’ve always been working towards it.
“The response was huge, I think it's because nothing like this has ever been done, especially for techno music, so I think it was appealing to people and I can’t wait for it to go ahead.
“Once you get a good response it’s very rewarding, but it will be hard to top this one.”
Frazi.er will be accompanied by German techno DJ Kobosil tonight.
As well as selling out the huge venue, he’s also sold out an intimate pre-party at Glasgow’s Raddison Red Hotel Sky Bar and a four-hour after-party at SWG3.
Fraser told us his team is already lining up another event at the famous OVO Hydro for later in the year.
