Glasgow's iconic Mortons Rolls has ceased trading, putting hundreds of jobs at risk.

It's after a letter to employees was widely shared on social media, reportedly sent to employees on Friday, 3rd March.

250 people are expected to lose their jobs at the company’s manufacturing facility in Drumchapel.

The letter to employees from Director Alistair Sherry read: " We are writing to consult with you with regard your employment with Morton's Rolls Limited being terminated as result of redundancy.

"Whilst no final decision has been taken, every employee of the Company is receiving this let as all jobs are at risk.

"During this period of consultation, you are being laid off with immediate effect and are not to come to work. We w be in touch shortly to advise of the next stage of this consultation.

The Directors have taken steps to ensure that the business can continue in some form and have today entered into agreement which will hopefully ensure this, but it is likely that this will be with a reduced workforce across the business.

"We are unable to provide further details at this stage but hope to be in a position to do so at the beginning of next week."

Mortons Rolls were originally founded by Bob Morton and Jim Clarke in 1965 at their bakery in Temple, Anniesland.

We've contacted the company for a response.
