It could be months before we know the true cost of the damage caused by a faulty weir on the River Clyde.

The gate, which controls water levels during high and low tide, was jammed open last month and the banks around the Gorbals and Glasgow Green collapsed, taking footpaths and roads with them.

It was closed around 40 hours later, although the fix is not permanent.

Glasgow City Council says structural engineers are still carrying out investigations.

A spokesperson said: "The weir is operational and maintaining water levels however it’s not fixed and we are still looking at it.

"Large sections of the riverside footway which have been assessed as safe for use, have been reopened to the public.

"These sections of footpath will not require repairs however there are a few locations along the riverbank walkway which are still closed.

"These areas will require more detailed assessment to ensure that the correct repair strategies are put in place.

The assessment of these areas will take the form of targeted ground investigations, underwater surveys and topographical monitoring of the banks.

"The information gathered will allow us to design and develop the most appropriate, durable, long term solution for each location.

"This work has started, however it is far too early to estimate how much the repair works will cost or how long it will take."
