Missing mans family told about remains

The family of a missing Glasgow man have been contacted by police about remains discovered in a park.

John Murphy, 53, disappeared from his home in Dennistoun, in May last year.

Police sealed off part of Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, on Tuesday after a member of the public found remains, that have today been confirmed as human.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death but Police are not treating it as suspicious.

Mr Murphy's relatives have been informed of the find.

It is understood the families of other missing people have also been contacted.

Married Mr Murphy left his home in Craigpark Drive at around 7am on May 12 and headed towards Duke Street to catch a bus to work.

He did not turn up at his workplace and was reported missing by his family that evening.

Mr Murphy is around 5ft 8in and of medium build, with short brown hair which is turning grey.
