Patrick Hart, who has dementia, was last seen at his home in Saracen Street, in the Saracen area of Glasgow, at around 4pm on Monday.
He had never gone missing before and his family had serious concern for his welfare.
A number of police officers, the force helicopter and dog units had been out searching for the pensioner since he was reported missing, including overnight.
On Tuesday evening, Police Scotland confirmed Mr Hart has been located, roughly 24 hours after he went missing. He was found in the Firhill area of the city.
Officers have thanked members of the public for their help.
The development comes after another man with dementia was traced following a police appeal.
William Sanders, 73, from Musselburgh, East Lothian, was found safe and well on Tuesday in Dalkeith Country Park after he failed to return home on Monday.
