A love triangle thug carried out a brutal murder bid on a man in front of three screaming children.

Ryan Lafferty knifed Alan Barr, 31, at the victim's flat in Milton, Glasgow on January 29 this year.

Raging Lafferty struck having discovered earlier that day his ex-lover had a "brief relationship" with Mr Barr.

Prosecutor Mark Mohammed told the High Court in Glasgow how the 31 year-old had threatened the victim before the attack.

Mr Barr was at home with a friend when a masked Lafferty then stormed in clutching a knife in each hand.

The hearing was told three young children were also there.

Mr Mohammed: "Lafferty entered the kitchen and shouted at Mr Barr: 'You are f***ing getting it'."

Mr Barr's friend tried to stop the thug, but Lafferty went on to stab the victim in the stomach.

The two men managed to eventually grab Lafferty and his mask slipped off revealing his identity.

But, the attacker still went on to stab Mr Barr again this time in the back.

Mr Barr repeatedly stated: "I am dying."

Mr Mohammed: "The children - who witnessed the assault - were hysterically screaming."

Lafferty fled leaving his blood-soaked victim stricken.

Mr Barr needed emergency surgery for the deep stomach wound.

He has been left scarred for life, but luckily will make a full recovery.

Lafferty handed himself into police days after the attack.

Lafferty appeared in the dock and pled guilty - via his lawyer Graeme Brown - to charges of attempted murder as well threatening behaviour.

Lord Stuart remanded him in custody and deferred sentencing for reports until next month in Inverness.
