Men plead guilty to assault and pitch invasion during Villarreal match at Ibrox
A Rangers fan has admitted running on to the pitch during the Europa League football match against Villareal.
Paul Cairney, 26, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court today when he appeared from custody.
He admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner at Ibrox Stadium on November 29, leaving his seat in the stand entering the pitch and breaching the peace.
The invasion will be included in the referee's match report and it could see the Ibrox side face Uefa punishment.
Cairney, from Livingston, West Lothian was represented by defence lawyer Amy Hunter and sentence was deferred until December.
A narrative of the facts will be heard then.
Fellow-football fan Nicholas Walker, 20, also admitted assaulting police officer Gary Montgomerie at the match, that ended goal-less.
He pled guilty to throwing a glass bottle from the crowd, that narrowly missed PC Montgomerie.
The court heard that while police were removing Cairney from the pitch, items were thrown by fans.
Walker, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire - also represented by Miss Hunter - was spotted on CCTV throwing the bottle.
He was stopped by police as he was leaving the stadium and admitted "That was stupid".
The court heard he apologised for his actions.
Sentence was also deferred until a later date.
