Life in prison for men guilty of Renfrew murder

Two men have been jailed for the murder of Alastair Campbell in Renfrew.

49-year-old James Cook and Brian Reilly, who's 37, pled guilty to murder at the High court in Glasgow on Monday.

Today, Cook was sentenced to 16 years and eight months in prison while Reilly will spend the next 15 years and nine months behind bars

Alastair, who was 52, died shortly after being found seriously injured at flats on Renfield Street in October 2023.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie said: “Cook and Reilly will now face the consequences of their actions which led to Alastair’s death.

"I hope this sentence brings Alastair’s family some degree of closure and my thoughts remain with them.

“Violent incidents such as this are not tolerated in our communities and our officers will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”
