Masked raiders steal cash and jewellery during robbery in Elderslie
The five balaclava-clad men broke into the home around 2pm on Saturday.
They attacked the 58-year-old householder before he managed to escape and lock himself in the bathroom.
The robbers stole money and jewellery worth an estimated four-figure sum from the property on Newlandcraigs Drive then fled.
Officers believe they may have left in a vehicle, which was possibly parked on nearby Glenpatrick Road.
One suspect is described as around 5ft 7ins and wore a black bomber jacket, balaclava and gloves.
The householder was examined by paramedics but was not taken to hospital.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and for anyone with dashcam footage of the area at the time to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Alastair Semple said: ''This has been an extremely frightening experience for the householder.
Several personal items of jewellery have been taken, many of which hold great sentimental value and are irreplaceable to the owners.
I am urging people in the area to think back and consider if they saw anything which they thought was a little odd.
Did you see a group of men hanging around the street, did you hear anything suspicious? Was there a car or van which seemed out of place?
Any small piece of information could prove vital in our investigation to trace the men responsible for this crime.''
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
