Masked men restrain couple in Carluke robbery
A couple have been robbed in their home by two masked men.
The men forced their way into the property in Lanark Road in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, at around 9.45pm on Thursday.
They threatened and restrained the 61-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife before rummaging through the house and taking cash, jewellery and mobile phones, police said.
The couple were able to free themselves and contact officers. They were not injured.
Detective Sergeant Tom Kiernan said: This was a dreadful incident perpetrated on a respected local family.
I would appeal to anyone in the local community who may have seen anyone loitering in the general area either on foot or in a car in or near Goremire Road at Lanark Road prior to the robbery - whether that be just before or earlier that day.
Whilst the inquiry is at an early stage, I believe this to have been a targeted crime.''
He also appealed to local businesses dealing in second hand goods to be aware of people selling on items of jewellery if they have any reason to believe they could be stolen. An increased police presence will be in the area, he confirmed.
The suspects, who were both wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, are described as white. One is 5ft 5in to 5ft 7in, slender, and has protruding eyes. The other is 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in, of stocky build.
