Police in Maryhill are starting a murder investigation following the death of a woman in what detectives have called a "brutal'' attack in her home.

A block of flats in Cumlodden Drive was sealed off when Jacqueline Grant, 54, was found on Tuesday evening.

A post mortem has been carried out and her death is being treated as a murder, the force said in a statement.

"Jacqueline died as a result of a brutal attack in her home and her family are devastated by what has happened,'' said Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Grainger.

"We have a dedicated team of officers dealing with the case supported by local officers and specialist resources including forensic and search trained officers, carrying out a detailed search of her home and the local area.''

DCI Grainger said officers had been checking CCTV footage from the area and speaking to neighbours.

"However, we are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area either later in the evening or night of Monday, 6 April or the early hours and in to the morning of Tuesday 6 April,'' DCI Grainger said.

Anyone with possibly relevant information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting reference number 2388 of 6 April, 2021. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
