A man who carried out a brutal murder bid on his partner at her home in Newton Mearns has been jailed for five years and three months.
38-year old Brian Ivison stabbed Nicola Renwick 11 times with a knife during the attack on December 8, 2019.
When police officers arrived at the scene the 38 year-old, who was covered in blood, told them: "I think I have just murdered my wife.
"I’m past the point of giving a f***. She’s dead."
At the High Court in Glasgow judge Lady Stacey told Ivison, who appeared via a video link: "You understand what you did that night was very serious. You inflicted injuries to your partner who trusted you. You breached that trust by attacking her.
"She had a collapsed lung and was left scarred. It could have been much worse and you thought you had killed her."
Prosecutor Ruth Charteris QC said that around 10pm Ivison became anxious about returning to work and poured an entire bottle of vodka on the living room floor, then went to the kitchen and returned with a steak knife.
Ms Charteris said: " The complainer was sitting on the couch and without warning the accused stabbed her to the head. There followed a sustained attack in which the accused stabbed her multiple times on the face, base of neck, arm and chest."
Nicola managed to make her way to a neighbour's house where she was given first aid and the police were called.
Meanwhile the accused, who was covered in blood, made his way to a house in nearby Waterside Drive and was shouting to householders : "I need help, there has been a fight. You need to call an ambulance."
Nicola suffered wounds to her head, neck, chest and arm as well as a collapsed lung and a fracture near her eye.
Miss Charteris said Ivison had been off work on December 6 and added: "This caused him to be agitated over the weekend."
Ivison, also of Newton Mearns, pled guilty to attempted murder.
Defence counsel Louise Arrol said: "This is quite an unusual case. Mr Ivison had the benefit of a university degree in engineering. He had a good employment history, however his Achilles heel was drug and alcohol abuse.
"He was on a drug and alcohol binge over the weekend. He has little recollection of of the offence, but has demonstrated remorse."
