A man is to go on trial accused of a murder in a flat in Blantyre last year.

Shane Young is accused of killing 33-year-old Richard Marshall on March 31 2021 by punching, kicking and striking him on the head with an unknown “blunt object”.

It’s also claimed the 21-year-old stabbed the victim on the body with a screwdriver or similar sharp implement, and that he locked a door and removed a key to prevent access to the property.

A hearing called on Monday at the High Court in Glasgow, where Young's QC Ian Duguid pled not guilty on his behalf.

Lady Scott set a trial due to begin in August. The case could last around six days.
