Man to stand trial accused of Blantyre murder

A man is to stand trial charged with mowing down and murdering a man in Blantyre.

Marc Hamilton, 38, is accused of killing Gary Starrs on May 29 last year.

Prosecutors allege he drove a car at the 47 year-old repeatedly striking him on the head and body with the vehicle.

Mr Starrs is said to have fallen to the ground and hit his head.

The murder charge states he was left so severely injured he later died in hospital on June 9 last year.

Co-accused Christopher Johnstone, 32, is separately accused of attacking Mr Starrs by punching him on the head and body.

Hamilton is further alleged to have assaulted Gary Starrs junior to his injury that day by also hitting him with the motor.

Both Hamilton and Johnstone are also charged with being in possession of cocaine.

The pair deny the charges.

Lord Mulholland set a trial at a hearing at the High in Glasgow with the case due to begin in January next year.
