The victim was in an altercation with a man on Morven Avenue, when another man approached and seriously assaulted the 35 year old around 9pm.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandria Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The suspect is white, wearing a red and black striped top and dark coloured trousers.

Officers are reviewing CCTV images for any information which could assist their enquiries.

They have also been carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Craig Riddell said:

'We are trying to piece together the exact circumstances of what has happened.

'At this stage, the motive for the attack is unclear and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

'This is a mainly residential area and I’m sure there are a number of people who witnessed the incident.

'If anyone has any information or knowledge as to who is responsible for this attack, I would urge them to contact police and pass their information on.'
