Man to Stand Trial Accused of Murdering Father

A man is to stand trial charged with murdering his 65 year-old father. Peter McDermott is accused of attacking Bernard McDermott at a flat in Lynedoch Street, Greenock in April last year. McDermott is said to have repeatedly knifed the the OAP on the head, neck and body. The 41 year-old also faces a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice which includes claims that he hid a bloodstained knife and washed blood from his hands. McDermott is further accused of having a knife in a public place and a separate charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner. Judge Lady Rae set a trial due to take place in June in Stirling.
