Police are hunting an attacker who stabbed a man while he was walking with his five-year-old daughter.

The 22-year-old victim was in Ladyburn Street, Paisley, Renfrewshire, at about 6.30pm on Saturday when a man approached him from behind and stabbed him.

The man and his daughter had been making their way home from a day out when the attack happened, police said.

The girl was not injured but the father was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment and released the next day.

Officers described it as a "totally unprovoked and violent attack'', and are appealing for any witnesses.

The attacker is white, about 5ft 7ins and slim, with short, dark, curly hair.

He was wearing a navy blue top and tracksuit bottoms and had a plaster under his left eye.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident take place or who recognises the description of the suspect to contact Police Scotland on 101.
