A man has been seriously injured after the car he was driving crashed into a bus stop pole and a street lamp in Pollokshields.

His passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash on Wednesday.

The black Renault Clio was travelling west on Nithsdale Road near the junction with St Andrews Drive when it crashed at around 8.20pm.

The 21-year-old driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries while the passenger, also aged 21, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed until around 2am on Thursday while police carried out their investigations.

Sergeant John Bradford said: I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash but has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV footage from houses and premises overlooking the street and to anyone who may have dashcam footage which could help with our inquiries.''

Anyone with information is asked to contact Glasgow's road policing unit via 101, quoting incident number 3376 of January 8.
