A man who stabbed his brother-in-law to death in Glasgow will spend six years behind bars.

Hashim Uddin admitted killing Omer Sadiq in September 2020.

Mr Sadiq had gone to 27-year-old Uddin’s flat in Pollok after hearing he was planning to leave his wife.

A row broke out during which Uddin stabbed the 32-year-old twice. He later died in hospital.

Hashim Uddin pleaded guilty to culpable homicide at the High Court in Glasgow last month. On Wednesday he was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Speaking following the sentencing, Procurator Fiscal for Homicide and Major Crime David Green said:

“Hashim Uddin demonstrated a total disregard for human life and his actions had catastrophic consequences.

“I hope the sentence imposed today provides some resolution for the loved ones of Omer Sadiq.

“Knife crime has a significant impact on communities and we are committed to prosecuting crimes of this nature effectively and fairly.”
