A man has been robbed of a large amount of cash in broad daylight in Rutherglen.

Around 2 pm on Sunday, a 45 year-old man was putting a holdall style bag containing cash into the boot of his car on Hamilton Road, near to Main Street, Rutherglen when he was approached by a man who took the bag and struck him with a blunt weapon.

The suspect then got into a silver Ford Focus vehicle which then made off up Hamilton Road towards Stonelaw Road.

The 45 year-old man did not need medical treatment.

Detective Constable Craig MacKenzie, Cambuslang CID, said: “This was clearly a planned and targeted attack, and although nobody was seriously hurt, a significant amount of money was taken.

“We believe the Ford Focus vehicle that the suspect was travelling had been closely following the 45 year-old man in his own car a short time earlier.

“The Ford Focus has a distinctive “GB” sticker on the rear, and had a number of passengers in it at the time. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this car in the area either before or after the robbery.

“Officers are currently carrying out CCTV enquiries but we are asking that anyone who may have their own personal CCTV on Hamilton Road, or who may have dash-cam footage from that area to get in touch with us.
