Man pleads guilty to fracturing four of mum's ribs in Scotstoun

A man has pleaded guilty to fracturing four of his mum's ribs in an assault at her home in the Scotstoun area of Glasgow in May this year.

David Carrigan, 35, turned on Karen Martin at her home on May 30 2025.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Carrigan turned up to the property while drunk and entered his mother's bedroom.

Prosecutor Victoria Keel said: "He grabbed her by the jumper and leggings then pulled her around the room.

"Carrigan went on to her bed and punched her to the abdomen and face.

"She pleaded for him to stop but he continued to drag her around the room - repeatedly kicking and punching her to the body."

Carrigan then grabbed what was described as "room spray" and sprayed it on Mrs Martin's head.

The police were contacted and officers arrived to see Carrigan lying on the bed and his mother on the floor, visibly injured.

She was also noted to have ripped clothing at the time, in a distressed state and said her son had attacked her.

Carrigan went on to kick PC Gary Morrison to the groin before he was arrested.

Mrs Martin was taken to hospital meantime after she complained of pain to her ribs and struggled to breathe.

Miss Keel added: "She was found to have suffered four fractured ribs and tissue damage to her face."

Carrigan pleaded guilty today to assaulting his mother to her severe injury.

He also admitted assaulting the police officer.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Jonathan Guy who bailed Carrigan meantime.
