Court hears man offered £50k to target Steven “Bonzo” Daniel is a “Walter Mitty” character
Six men are on trial who were allegedly part of the “Lyons” criminal gang said to have targeted those linked to the “Daniel” crime mob
A man who said he was offered £50,000 to help in the attack of Steven “Bonzo” Daniel is a “Walter Mitty” character, his ex-lover claimed. Danielle Bonini told jurors Alistair McMillan “looked up” to the Daniel family.
She also said McMillan was “upset” when he found out the ex-taxi firm boss had been set upon in May 2017.
The 25 year-old was giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow.
Six men are on trial who were allegedly part of the “Lyons” criminal gang said to have targeted those linked to the “Daniel” crime mob.
The accusations include a string of attempted murders over a 15 month period.
Jurors earlier heard how Steven Daniel was attacked on May 18 2017.
He was left with serious facial wounds following the incident close to the on-ramp of the M8 motorway in the city's Port Dundas.
McMillan (43) gave evidence this week and claimed he had been asked to put a “tracker” device on Daniel prior to the attack.
This was after a meeting with three men in a garden at house in Renfrewshire.
He said he was offered £50,000 by the trio who he claimed wanted Daniel “murdered”.
McMillan's ex girlfriend Danielle said she had never met Daniel before.
But, she believed McMillan had been a “good friend” of the 39 year-old.
Advocate Susan Duff - defending one of the six on trial - said claims had been made Danielle had split from McMillan because she stole money from him.
But, the witness told the court: “A lot of lies. Alistair is a bit of a Walter Mitty - that is the best way to put it.”
Mrs Duff also asked her if McMillan “looked up” to Daniel.
Danielle: “In a way. He classed himself as one, he thought he was one of the Daniels.”
Mrs Duff: “He was upset when he heard Steven Daniel had been attacked when he heard about it in the news?”
Danielle: “Yes.”
Andrew Gallacher (40), Robert Pickett (53), Brian Ferguson (37) John Hardie (35), Andrew Sinclair (32) and Peter Bain (45) deny charges.
It is alleged they targeted Ryan Fitzsimmons, Thomas Bilsland, Gary Petty, Robert Daniel, and Steven Daniel.
The trial continues.
