A man who brutally ambushed three people for no reason on the street with a machete has been jailed for 28 months.

John Munro pounced on Kevin Parker, Alisha Ferns and Allan McGowan in Glasgow's Possilpark on October 30, 2021.

The 32-year-old and two men hailed a taxi which dropped the trio off at the scene of the crime.

The men - including Munro who was armed with the blade - jumped out and attacked the passers-by to the ground.

Two of the victims were left with stab wounds.

Munro pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the trio to their injury.

The court heard the taxi was booked and collected by Munro and the two men at 3.30am.

Prosecutor Lauren Donnelly said: "For reasons unknown, the driver was asked to stop and they would be back in two minutes.

"The driver observed three people across the other side of the road walking with nothing about their behaviour which would cause concern or alarm.

"He then observed the three men run over the road attack them and the victims were seen to fall to the ground.

"Munro and the other two men were then seen to be leaning over them."

The trio ran back to the taxi and ordered the driver to "Just go."

Munro was clocked to have a black handled machete in his possession which he placed in a sheath in his waistband.

The trio were later dropped off and the driver reported the incident to his company.

The victims were treated for their injuries meantime.

Miss Ferns had a wound to her left elbow which exposed her tendon as well as a gash to her torso.

Mr Parker hand a blunt force wound to his torso while Mr McGowan had a stab wound to his upper left arm.

Munro was traced to his home and the weapon was recovered from under his bed.

Sheriff Lindsay Wood asked Jim McParland, defending, if there was any reason for the attack and he said: "No."

The sheriff told Munro: "There is nothing to be proud of and you should be ashamed.

"These people were not expecting this to happen to them that night.

"Your time with your new born may be severely restricted.

"If you think that's important, that child will be born to a dad in prison."
