A THUG convicted of trying to kill a man in his own home has been locked up for 11 years.
James Weir, 40, pounced on Russell Cochrane at the flat in Paisley, Renfrewshire in February 2019.
He then raided the property as the 45 year-old victim lay stricken.
Jurors heard Mr Cochrane had a number of items stolen including cash, a TV and a games console.
Weir was today/yesterday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of attempted murder and robbery.
Lord Mulholland noted he already had a lengthy list of convictions including for violence and having weapons.
The judge said: "You attended at the door of your unarmed victim and stabbed him in the chest.
"He had no time to defend himself. This was a brutal, thuggish and cowardly act.
"It took 15 minutes before you left - by that time, his life was in peril by the wound you inflicted."
Weir's accomplice Gerard Tracey, 37, was locked up for five and a half years after he pled guilty to assaulting and robbing Mr Cochrane.
