Man jailed for terrorising partner in a 15-hour ordeal in North Lanarkshire
A thug who terrorised his lover then demanded £100,000 from her mum for her safe return has been jailed for six and a half years.
Graham Martin (29) flew into a rage after discovering Noreen Wilson had texted an ex boyfriend.
Noreen suffered at Martin's violent hands during a frightening 15-hour ordeal last June.
The 31 year-old was attacked and tied up as he branded her a “dirty s***”.
Martin went on to contact Noreen's mum Margo Wilson stating: “I want £100,000 or I'm slitting her throat.”
Margo alerted police who listened in as Martin continued his threats while Noreen cowered in fear.
He even sent a photo of his battered lover stating: “Is that enough for you?”
Armed officers eventually rescued a blood-soaked Noreen after Martin took her away in a taxi in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.
Martin was jailed at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier pleaded guilty to assault and attempted extortion.
Lady Stacey told him: “This is a despicable act. I know what you did and the effect it had on the woman who was your partner.
“She was entitled to have trust in you and you breached that trust.”
Martin was also hit with a three year non harassment order banning him from contact Noreen.
The couple had been dating for two years at the time of the incident last June 1.
They were at a friend's house in Bellshill when Martin lost the plot around 1am.
Prosecutor Mark Mohammed said: “He read a text message that Noreen had sent to an ex boyfriend.
“Martin then dragged her into a bedroom and barricaded the door with a chest of drawers and a bedside cabinet.
“He repeatedly punched her while calling her a 'w*' and a “dirty s'.”
Martin bound Noreen's hands with her hoodie and snatched her phone.
Mr Mohammed: “He then ripped her T shirt from her body and continued to kick and punch her.
“She was terrified and screamed at him to stop.”
Martin yanked her back into the living room as he continued to lash out.
He then claimed he was “sorry” - but added Noreen had “driven him to it”.
Martin next “ranted” about getting £100,000 from the victim's mum or he would “kill” both Noreen's parents.
Around 2am, Margo Wilson started getting messages from her daughter's phone.
They included: “She's crying and she's cheating on me.”
Margo desperately tried to find out what was wrong.
Martin then stated: “A want 100G cash of am slitting her throat.”
Margo and her husband James immediately called police.
The court heard the couple were eventually taken to a “safe location” as officers set up surveillance on the thug.
Mr Mohammed: “Police overheard and recorded threats made to harm Noreen and himself.
“He was also overheard making demands for money in exchange for the safe return of Noreen.”
A call was later put on loudspeaker – and Martin admitted he had attacked his lover.
He went on to send a text asking for “10 grand”.
As the terrifying incident carried on into the afternoon, Margo got a photo sent from her daughter's phone.
Mr Mohammed: “It showed Noreen with a black eye and burst lip. The message also read: 'Is that enough for you'.”
The court heard Martin went on to take Noreen in a taxi fearing police may be on their way.
But, armed officers were watching as the cab stopped at a local shop.
Martin was finally held around 3pm as a distressed Noreen was saved from his clutches.
The court heard she had a total of 18 injuries to her head and body.
This included “multiple” bruising and a chipped tooth.
Martin was previously jailed for six months in July 2017 for a “domestic” attack on Noreen.
He will also be supervised for three years on his release.
